One of the most common reasons that people seek treatment with an Orthodontist is the presence of an overbite. An overbite, also known as a type of malocclusion and or an overjet, is a dental condition where the upper teeth extend forward, covering the lower teeth.
What Causes An Overbite?
There are a few causes of overbites, all of which are mostly natural. With the exception of one cause, they all may be unavoidable. Here are some common causes of overbites:
• Habit – As the only avoidable cause, overbites may be a result of sucking on your thumb from a young age or even the use of a pacifier. These types of overbites are easy to fix, as just the teeth need to be repositioned. Continue reading →
People can benefit from orthodontic treatment at almost any age. Problems like crooked teeth, overbites, underbites, and jaw pain can often be corrected through orthodontics. While there are several treatment options depending on your circumstances, braces are one of the most popular and effective treatments.
Esthetics And Confidence
Oftentimes, crowding, spacing, and protrusion make people feel insecure about their teeth. They are embarrassed to smile in photographs and in front of others. Fortunately, orthodontic treatment can help correct these esthetic imperfections and give you the confidence and pride that come with straight teeth and a great smile.
Orthodontic relapse is a condition where teeth slowly fall out of alignment following treatment. This usually compels people to return to a practice for another round of orthodontic treatment to correct it. At Fairfield County Orthodontics, we make sure that after our patients have finished their treatment and understand the importance of wearing retainers to minimize the risk of relapse. What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign treatment consists of a series of aligners that you switch out approximately every two weeks. These aligners are individually manufactured to fit your smile through exact calculations so that your teeth will gradually shift into place. This creates a smile that truly fits your personality and facial features. Since the aligners are removable, patients are more easily able to drink, eat, brush and floss their teeth while in treatment. This prevents the staining and decay that can be caused by metal braces. Typically, an office visit for Invisalign involves taking impressions of the teeth, after which multiple clear trays are delivered. These trays are worn over a period of 2 – 4 weeks. A patient’s specific dental needs determines the number of trays and the length of treatment they will need. Continue reading →
